Quick Intro And Setup
SPEAKER_01Hey man, what to do? What it is. You're right. No device. It's your boy, Mr. Bell. AKAK Say your name up on the spot. Might not be with you tomorrow. All right, so quick. Some stuff happening in the NBA. You know, I love the NBA. So this is going to be a we're going to call it a hold up and another thing. If we're going to talk sports, I might give y'all a little jerk takes at the end, but we're going to talk sports right now. So I got an interviewer here with me. She's going to ask me some questions. And we understand we're going to talk about the sports that's going on right now. Like I said, I might give y'all a little jerk at the end because I was talking about looking about the jerk album. And we go, I'm I'm gonna add some text for that. But yeah, you know what I'm saying? You already know the best. We're gonna call it a front, we're gonna call it a hold up and another thing, but it's really a from my perspective extra. But here we go.
The Late Layup Debate
SPEAKER_00So cute. We just finished watching this game. Pretty interesting ending. And uh so I want to know. Your team is up 20 points on your opponent. Y'all got the lead, time running down, game pretty much pretty much over. Y'all ain't got it in the back. You can bust out on a fast break. Are you going to the hoop or are you just gonna dribble it out? What do you think?
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I have to start it like this. But from my perspective, I think that was a sucker move by JD McDaniels because of the simple fact. If you it's unwritten rules in every sport, no matter where whether it's baseball, whether it's football, whether it's basketball, whatever the case might be, it's unwritten rules. You know, if you're up by 20 points, you don't go in for the layup. That's not what you do. Everybody, you allow, you allow, you dribble the clock out, especially in that situation where once he laid the ball up, it ain't nothing but a minute. Uh I mean, not even a minute, 0.3 seconds left. While you land the ball up now, Tim to score. Now, I do I do know Jaden McDaniels is the one before the series started, was talking the talking the junk about the Minnesota, but not uh he played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, talking junk about the Denver Nuggets, whatever the case may be. Because them two, like I said, on from our perspective, them two, them two teams do not like each other. Denver and Minnesota, they do not like each other, they keep coming across each other in the playoffs, which is good for us as fans, but you know what I'm saying, it gives us something to watch. But it shows on the court when they had the melee at the end. You do not lay the ball up. If it's me, I'm dribbling the ball out, I'm ending the game. We go, we're gonna we're gonna take it back to Denver and try to end the series there. But doing a layup, to me, like I said, that's a sucker ass move. To me, from my perspective, that is a sucker ass move.
SPEAKER_00So when knowing that they have this history, okay, that's like a vendetta, I'm I'm guessing. Um, so with that layup, I'm thinking that's kind of like an exclamation point that he was putting on this kind of back and forth that they have.
SPEAKER_01That's an exclamation point if you in if you closing the series out in game four. You have to go back to Denver and play another game. There is still another game to be played. And you just gave them you now. You just pissed off Joker. Joker, which he's a um, he's a finalist MVP. Do I agree that he should be in the top three MVP? No. Speaking of my cousins, I was talking about talking to them earlier. I don't think Joker should have been in the final three. I think it should have been Jalen Brown because of the simple fact the gap year. Everybody thought it was a gap year for Boston. He carried them to the second seat in the East. Leslie Durham there already, you know what I'm saying, discuss that in nausea. But you made a uh a finalist MVP angry. We're talking about a walking triple dope in Joker. Yeah. You piss him off. He's gonna go out here and ball. He's gonna go home and ball. Y'all know to his home court. They not they're not gonna close this series out. Imagine, I didn't think they would close the series out for the layup because of the simple fact uh D Vichizo was hurt, Anthony Elvis was hurt, right? So you already Denver's going home, they're gonna win game two, they're gonna win game five, right? They're gonna win game five. But if then you gave them a reason for the whole team to be pissed. I know they joker's joker's gonna pop. We talk, like I said, we're talking about a walking triple double. Russell Westbrook is known as a triple-double. Joker is way more known as a triple-double, as the walking triple double. So I'm going to that makes me want to say the Denver's gonna pull it out because of the fact we don't know the the health of Anthony Elwitch, and then you piss the Joker off a motivated Joker. Um I meant Denver's going to win gang final without question.
SPEAKER_00That's the good point, right there, because in in essence, that's what he did was gave Joker more of a motivation. He gave him more of a reason to ball out on them as he heads back home to Denver.
Suspensions And Leaving The Bench
SPEAKER_01Correct. Now, the the question is does not boil down into his suspension. Oh, I mean you had a conversation about they do not play about the NBA. Adam Silver gets criticized of being light on the suspensions of white when people get in trouble. But when it comes to leaving that bench, as well, Adam Adam Silver, I was already calling Adam Silver, Adam Silver does not play. You leave that bench, you get suspended the game. Point blake three. It's gonna be interesting to see interesting to see how many Denver players left the bench and then what they do with Minnesota because it happened on the bench. Now, did they go on a court trying to separate players? Yes, but I don't know if that should technically count as leaving the bench when it happened right in front of my bench.
SPEAKER_00I think that counts. I think that counts because there's gotta be a certain line somewhere where you stepped off of this is your bench area. They were on the court, they were on the court, so um, and it seemed to be quite a few of them that cleared out, so it will very well be very interesting on uh what the NBA ends up doing with the suspensions.
Injuries And The Series Outlook
SPEAKER_01I do think it's interesting. I think we're gonna be I think we'll have the answer by the time this five comes out, more than likely y'all will have the answer. So, but I because I think they're gonna be, I think they're gonna be quick with it, especially because it's the playoffs. You don't have a couple days, you don't have three, four days to see like weigh in. Let's watch the trade, blah, blah, blah. Right. You kind of have to make the decision. You gotta wake up tomorrow. Hey, this is who left the bench, that's who's left the bench. So teams can prepare themselves for going into game five, especially with the injuries for Minnesota. Demon Chinzo with the torn Achilles reference to him, that is a year-long injury. He I don't expect him to be playing next year. Anthony Elvis is still up in the air. The way I watched the video, the way it looked, especially because he's been hurt throughout he's he was hurt during the season, and then he's he had to leave the game the last game. I don't expect Anthony Elvis to play in the next game. I could be wrong, but I call uh Vic Vic didn't play in game three. I knew I saw that then he wasn't gonna play. But JD McDaniel, I don't go back to it. I know we started third, but I just think Jaden McDaniels did a sucker move for the great defensive player in the well, the the good all-around player, because he has shown glimpses offensively, JD McDaniels has. But the great defensive player that he is to do that suckable. I know you don't like, I know you don't like them. I know you don't like them because you was talking to junk before, but you don't do that, especially not when you have another game to play. You giving them the edge, you're giving them bulletin board material. And as us as fans, we don't think bullet bulletin board material is a thing, but them players sure do. They remember that stuff and they take that stuff personally, yeah. So I think it's it's it I think they're gonna pay for that. I I think they're gonna pay for that.
SPEAKER_00So let me ask you, because obviously it's frowned upon. Suck them. But is it really a rule? It seems it's disrespectful, we could say, and an unwritten rule, and like I said, frowned upon, and something we wouldn't expect people to do. But if a player does that, I mean, not really a rule, is it?
SPEAKER_01It's a rule, it's an unwritten rule. Baseball, your brother plays your brother played baseball was a high-level baseball player. Baseball, baseball more than any other sport, has unwritten rules. They have unwritten rules more than any other sport, but basketball and football, basketball and football, they have the same, they have this, they have unwritten rules too. You dribble the clock out, yeah. Everybody knows that it's like a sign of respect. You don't if I'm already up, why am I gonna go in here and lay the ball down? I'm lay the ball up, especially with 1.3 seconds. So there's no shot clock violations. But you see, at the end of games, teams take shot clock violations when they already up, right? And I think yeah, that happens all the time. So he allowed the mentality of the hatred for that team to take over. Yeah, yeah. That's what he you can't allow your hatred, you can't get it too emotional of in the moment in the ladder to take over your mental.
SPEAKER_00Yep, he let that vendetta come in between what what he should have been doing, what was like morally right for the game in that moment.
Records And Empty Points Talk
SPEAKER_01Yes. He he got caught up in the moment, which people do with, you know what I'm saying? That's what people do. But I don't think that's what he should have done in that moment, especially in game four. Again, like I said, you still gotta play them in a couple days. Right. You have played him in a couple days. I wouldn't have done it if you gotta play him in a couple of days.
SPEAKER_00So let me ask you this. Say hypothetically, he was going for some type of record, a points record, or whatever. Same, same situation, same situation. Still suckable, and say he could have made his record with one or two more points with that layup. Should he have dribbled it out or went ahead and went for the layup?
SPEAKER_01No, because the same thing when they did with Bam. When Bam was getting all those free throws at the end of the game, they they don't want to give people don't want to give credit to Bam for scoring all those points because of it was I call it shaky behavior at the end of the game. People don't want to give Bam credit for that. So it's just it's the same situation. You don't do that, you don't, you don't, because it's like it doesn't mean the same if you didn't get it during the course of the game. Yeah, and that's why people's taking credit away from BAM out of value scoring all of those points because it didn't happen naturally in the course of the game. It was a bunch of other stuff, a bunch of shakiness. I call it shakiness to allow a lot of questionable things to several uncertainties, yes. There's a bunch of free throws in BAM situations, it was a bunch of free throws that was shy that normally would have not been taken.
SPEAKER_00Okay, it makes sense. So yeah, yeah, I definitely think that it was uh uncalled for situation, never should have happened. Um, definitely think he was wrong for that. And that was the wrong, wrong choice, but it's gonna be interesting to see what penalties come from the ending of the bitches.
Anthony Edwards Health Becomes Key
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I think that's gonna be the key to see what happens going into game five, and whatever the case may be. I think also I think we we kind of skipped the elephant in the room. What's gonna happen with Anthony Edwards? Because Dante D. Vincenzo, he Dante Di Vincenzo, he tore his account. Yeah, he's in room. He's not playing, right? Yeah, we don't know what's gonna happen with Anthony Edwards. I think that's the elephant in the room of yes, this layup happened, but the more the more pressing issue is okay, because we're gonna have suspensions. If we do have suspensions, they're only gonna be for a game. Yeah, how long is Anthony Elbert gonna be out? That's the elephant in the room, is how long he's going to be out. I think that makes a makes a big difference in how this series goes. Because in fact, I already got Denver in my aid going back home when they get final. Game six is going back to Minnesota. Do I try I owe I owe De Schuma, he put up 43 points off the bench, right?
SPEAKER_00And shout out to him. He played a great game. Shout out to him. Um getting his name out and all that. Uh, we're sitting here talking about him. So that's great for sure.
Surprise Scorers And Defensive Adjustments
SPEAKER_01Shout out to him. But if ain't no Anthony Elworth and you don't want that everybody that now we see we can't play against you. Can you still do that? Can you repeat what you did when all eyes are on you? I think that that's why I said the Anthony Elriss situation is so key because it is next man up mentality. But can you do it again? Because he did it this game when he was already in the flow and the team wasn't watching him. Yeah. Denver wasn't watching him. Yeah. Next game, yeah. They're gonna, especially if Anthony Elriss does not play. Well, even if Anthony Elbs plays, our eyes are gonna be on him because we just saw that you put up 42 points. We saw that you just put up 20 in the last game. Yeah, you coming off the bench couldn't have records. I do want to touch on this real quick. I don't know if it's the Captain Hater moment or whatever the case may be. It probably is. I don't think it's per usual. But we was watching a broadcast and they said uh players that in Minnesota history that have scored over 40 points. They didn't say Kevin Garnett's name. That they did not that kind of rude me. Because Emmy Edwards is the current like GOAT of Minnesota, but Kevin Garnett won an MVP. Well, Kevin Garnett won an MVP, and I know Minnesota they didn't they didn't have like the strongest playoff issue. Matter of fact, I think it was from like 2005 to 2021 or two or whatever. They only made the playoffs one time in like a 17-year stretch. But that's kind of wild to me. I'm just gonna throw that out there. That's why I said I don't think it's a captain hater moment, but I don't know, I don't know. But um, shout out to like you said, shout out to him. He scored 43 points with talking about him. But with the with the defense going to collapse on him, I don't, I wonder. Oh I wonder if he can keep it up. I hope he's able to keep it up because I don't want to be a Captain Hater moment in that regard. But I hope he can keep it up. Kevin Gardner is not scoring 40 points. That's surprising. Um I don't even feel like I was a Captain Hater moment.
SPEAKER_00It's not a Captain Hater moment, actually. Um I don't have to have the that in itself is surprising. Um, but no, you're not hating in this moment, you are actually spitting facts, and it is uh that is surprising. So yeah, there's that.
Broadcast Snubs And Playoff Hype
SPEAKER_01So yeah, um, I'm excited to see, you know me, I love the NBA playoffs, although this is my time of the year. Shout out to Flamocas, shout out to Dion or whatever the case may be. Uh, because this is my time of the year. We went live last year during the finals, mainly because the pace was just playing. We had a good time doing that. Uh so yeah, no, I'm excited to see the I mean, I'm excited to see how the playoffs continue. And I'm excited to see the next I'm excited to see the next game, not game five, because I think it's gonna be suspensions. I'm excited to see game six. Definitely gonna be suspicious. Because I think it's just yeah, so I don't think game five is I I think them was going to win because I don't think Joker's gonna get suspended. And I don't think like Jamal, Joker don't get suspended, Jamal Marty don't get suspended, Aaron Gore don't get suspended. I think that will be okay. No disrespect to the others. But I think as long as Jim 3's playing and them three was on the court at the time, I think they're gonna be up. They're gonna be fine.
SPEAKER_00Although that game may be interesting if several are suspended. True. If several are suspended, it's gonna make a make for an interesting game because obviously that limits your players.
SPEAKER_01True, but I I go with Denver at home because like I say, Jamal Murray's not gonna be suspended.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, um, and with that with that player at with that play at the end, McDaniel just put the battery in their back. Um so yeah, I'm going with Denver for next game as well. Yeah, I got Denver.
Switching To Music And Jerk Talk
Why Wale Feels Like Album Of Year
Drake Iceman Hype And Expectations
SPEAKER_01Uh, but I am I'm excited to see game six. Not necessarily excited to see game five, yeah, but I'm excited to see game six of the Denver, Denver Nuggets in uh Minnesota Timberwolves guy. All right, man, let NBA talk. We did we did do it. So I am gonna get into a little jerk talk here real quick. So I was talking to my cousin and my little cousin, Magic. He's 15. He's 15, big jerk fan. And he's he thinks he already said jerk's ice iceman is gonna be album out of the year. I disagree. I do not think jerk is gonna be the album of the year. Because my one cousin, he's when I said this person's person's name, he said who I said if the person, it's not a no-name, that's the crazy thing. I said wale. Oh, you think wale's gonna be Wale's album already came out. It did, yeah. And I still listen to that album. I think Wale album is going to be the album of the year, and the reason I told my book is my year, they're like half, they're less than half my age. I'm talking to a team, two teenagers and a preteen. Shout out to myself, talking to two teenagers and a preteen. My son be trying to get me to listen to this Down Tolliver album. I might get to it at some point, but like I'm explaining to them, for me, the Wale album has everything you want on it. I the Wale album has the club joint. Well, it's not your typical club joint, like you know what I'm saying, shorty gonna short, but it does have the songs you can play in the club. The Wale album also connected to his roots, which is the go-go music from the DMV. He, of course, Wale is gonna give you the RB type ballet. The Wale album was a complete album. From everything I'm hearing about the Drake album, Drake gonna get on her rap, and that's great. That's what people want Drake's going to rap. Right, but I don't know if it's gonna have every element. And with so much anticipation coming with this Drake album, it's going to is going to be hard to live up to the hype. No, that's a good point. This is we look we listen to Rory and Maul, and Maul keeps saying this Drake album is the most anticipated album in hip hop industry. In in history, that's what he said. He says in history, oh my, and I keep waffling back and forth. So now that we on the pod, I think I I'm gonna give my answer. Okay, and I think I ought to leave with Maul. I think this is the most anticipated album. Drake did drop the joint the joint album with um I was about to say time outside with party next door. He dropped the joint album of party next door, right? But that's more RB album. You're not gonna get you're not gonna get what you wanted from that album. That's not what you he's not gonna, he's not gonna talk about how you feel about Cole dropping after dropping up the ballot. He's not gonna talk about Kendrick. He's not gonna. I even heard a song. I even saw some clips of a song where he was talking about Pusha T when him and Pusha T was going back and forth. He's bringing up all stuff. Drake's gonna rap on this album. This is the album where Drake's going to address everything. Like he he already talked about the look, you know what I'm saying, with with his with his pre-release, talking about like uh talking about how everybody was coming to him or whatever the case, but uh what did I miss? The joint butter, I can't think of another song. I love our song. He talked about on what did I miss? That's my jam. Charlamagne the God didn't make a great point. If he had to been quiet after the Drake and Kendrick Beef, what did I miss would have hit hard up. But because he was active, yeah, it didn't hit the same. Yeah, it still hit. Yeah, but Charlemagne the God is right. If he had to just be quiet, what did I miss when he came out? That would have gave me torn up, you know what I'm saying? But it's hard to because this album is so hyped, it's gonna be hard to live up to it. Same situation with like artists who drop like Bryson Tiller. Bryson Tiller's is always the name that comes to match. Shout out to Bryson Tiller. His first album, Trap So that album was so great that every album after that is trying to live up to that type of that album, and you can't because of how great Trap Soul was, because it was so raw and authentic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the rest of his albums is not authentic, but that one was so raw and authentic. You come up with Drake did so much hype around Iceman because Iceman has been anticipated. Same thing with Hell Cole with this one with the fall off. Cole, J. Cole's album, the follow off, was so anticipated because we knew it was coming because something like J. Cole was telling the story. It was a part of the it was part of the story art. This album was anticipated. So it couldn't, and it was a double disc. I hope Iceman is not a double disc. Please, if you hey it says Drake, make 15. Iceman. If it's a double disc, go through that and take some songs off and make it make it a one disc album. Single disc. Because imagine Drake already did every great rapper has their double disc album. Drake already did his. So I don't think this one will be a double disc, but please don't make this a double Drake. Whatever you do, don't make Iceman a double disc. Please. Because they it's just more music for people to hate off you. But like I said, same thing with Cole with the fall-off. It was anticipated. I think Drake is more anticipated because of some fact. He people feel like he has so much more to address. I don't know if I want to hear Drake. I want to hear Drake rap about the beef, but I don't want to hear him rap take shots at Kendrick. It already happened. We had that moment, it's over. Because especially with the lawsuit, this just gives more fuel to the people that hate you. I if you rap, or if you get on her and rap about the beef, Drake get on Iceman and rap about the beef, that's fine. If he wanna get on her and address how he feels about J. Cole, that's fine as well. But I don't want to hear him taking shots at Kendrick. That ain't what I want her. Now, I wouldn't be mad at him taking shots at the other people. If when it was 20 versus one, the ASAP Rockies, the Rosses, because the beef was so focused on Kendrick, right? I would not be mad if he got on her.
SPEAKER_00There's all these other outliers. Yeah.
Features Beef Fallout And Summer Releases
SPEAKER_01If Drake took shots at the outlier, if he took shots at the outliers of the 20 versus one, that I won't go at Ross's neck. Yeah. I want you to because Rice Ross called him Drake Ross called him that man white boy. What'd Drake say? All your all the songs that got up that made it on the chart, he got from Drake. Go get Ronx. Go get ASAP Rock. Go get Hit Boy. I heard Future is on the album. From me, from my perspective, I wouldn't put Future on the album. No, I wouldn't have done that. The album, the name of their album was him and uh Hit not Hit Boy. Make sure boom. The name of their album was We Don't Trust You. Then they came out with another project called We Still Don't Trust You. Kendrick, Kendrick, Kendrick had a song on there. The Weekend had a song on there. ATA Rocky had a song on her. All the people on here that don't like you had a song on her. I'm not gonna put turn around and then put future on my album. Yeah. What kind of sense does that make? And you thug, shout out to Yon Thug, Yon Thug trying to interview he made them sweet. Metro Boom and Future Drake. The music works better when we all together. I hear you. Nah. Not this album. Maybe next album. Maybe the you know what I'm saying? The album next year. Give me some time. Give it some time. The first I I don't want future on this project. Imagine if future and Drake, they're gonna do a dope song. They are they're gonna do a dope song. I'm not questioning that. But do I want to hear future on this album? Absolutely not. But I don't, I think Iceman is anticip is the most anticipated album of all time. I just don't, I don't think it's gonna be hard to live up to the height. Even and that's just me. Like, I'm gonna try to go in listening to it from clear ears, but I know that while A joint. That, like I said, that Yale A joint is version brand me of the year because he has every element on there. And you can tell he took his time away.
SPEAKER_00Very um diverse, gives variety. So yeah, I'm with you on that. That's that's a very that would be a a a good reason.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. Yeah, that's uh um it's gonna be uh that's something it's wallet.
SPEAKER_00Come on.
SPEAKER_01Wallet make joy. It's gonna be a great summer though. Uh Kalani just dropped, I don't get halfway, I got halfway through that thing. Uh Chris Brown is Chris, it's Kalani, then it's Chris Brown, then it's Drake, and then Bryson Bryson Timmler got a single coming out on Tuesday. I remember when people used to drop on Tuesdays. I'm that old. My cousin called me old because I was because he's like, damn, I ain't know you was that old that you was watching Michael Jordan. Yeah, it's crazy because Michael Jordan probably doesn't 2000s. That's wild. Well, whatever. Uh I remember when people used to drop on Tuesdays. I used to used to work at Kmart and I used to get the albums from Kmart on Tuesdays at the end of my ship. I remember that, but everybody drops on Fridays. But Ryson Taylor got a single drop in on Tuesday. It's called It's Okay, I can't. I already heard I heard the snippet of it, but he sounds fire. So I like it sound like fire, fire bryson. So that means it means it's an album coming.
SPEAKER_00So we don't we used to almost uh we used to only get new movies out on Fridays in the theaters. That was back before streaming.
Thanks Outro And Wrap
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was back back sounding oh the old man great off my line. You know what I'm saying? But uh I'm ex So this is gonna be a booming summer. We got some good music to listen to. Uh Kalani. I'm gonna finish the Kalani, the couple of Kalani. Kalani joined. We'll get into the Chris Brown. We're gonna get into the Drake because I gotta we're gonna have to talk about it on the Mix Virus podcast, then we're gonna have to talk about it here on Hold Up and another thing. Joe, we'll we're gonna come on her and break down the Drake album. So, yeah, y'all make sure y'all stay tuned. So, all that thank you for asking me these questions.
SPEAKER_00Thank you for absolutely thank you for having me.
SPEAKER_01I appreciate you whatnot. Yeah, I'll have to come back through. Um, anyways, y'all already know the bass. It's your boy, Mr. Bell, aka say your name up on this pie. Might not with you to mind. Thank y'all for listening to another episode of Hold Up in another thing.
SPEAKER_00And it's your girl Shay Hill still coming through, and I'm gonna holler at y'all later as well. You just cut off my intro.
SPEAKER_01I did because I had to do my outro. You just cut off my, I mean, you cut off my outside. How to do my outro? We're gonna cut that out. Yeah, everybody, it's your boy, Mr. Bell. I can't say your name on the spot. I might not put you tomorrow. We're gonna catch you out on the next one.
